Welcome!  Did you know that it is possible to create your own unique avatars and props from any digital image?  My name is A. Vatar.  I’ll be your guide through this self-instructional unit on making props and avatars for the Palace.  Watch for me to give you helpful hints while you work at your own comfortable pace.

Who this unit is for and what it is about:

All users start with the same bag of props and a set of smiley face avatars.  Creating props and avatars presents the freedom to be creative and unique. Though clever avatars and props are things that every Palace user craves, many settle for using the familiar set of smiley faces because they lack the knowledge of making their own.

The goal of this self-instructional unit is to teach registered Palace clients how to create Palace props and avatars by using Paint Shop Pro 7 to convert any digital image into the correct size and colors, and by using the Palace prop editor to complete the transformation.

The instruction is here – time to be an individual.

Before starting, make sure you have the following items:

What image to choose:

An avatar refers to pictures, drawings or icons that users choose to represent themselves.  A prop is an object, such as a hat or drink, which users can add to their avatars or add to a Palace room.

Visually, you can be anything you want to be.  Common avatars include animals, cartoons, celebrities, fictional characters, and real face photographs.  Props and avatars can be anything that represents an aspect of your personality, moods, lifestyle, and interests.

Let's get started!   This self-instructional unit is divided into 5 smaller sections which you can link to below.  I recommend that you follow the given sequence in order for things to make sense.  At the end of each section is a “Check Your Progress” checklist to let you know how you are doing.    Have fun!
